smoothing underlayment

Hi,
im going to lay a karndean in my living room, which has a concrete floor with some vinyl tiles stick down which are going to be very hard to get up. what i want to know is can i put a smoothing underlayment on top of these tiles then put the karendean down
please see photo
also is smoothing underlayment the same as self levelling compound?
