Help needed.

I've dug a hole at the bottom of the garden 1m deep - after about two days of rain it is full of water and looking like a swimming pool.

How can I turn this into a soak away that will actually work?

Do I just build a brick wall around the internal perimiter and feed the pipe into it? Then cover it with a concrete slab and turf over?

These building control guys are not keen on me diverting the rainwater into the soil waste....

That's because it is working !

Normally a soakaway start with sharp sand at the bottom then pea shingle, 3/4" stone and work your way up with bigger stone or hardcore.

A lot depends on your clay condition so you may need more soakaway or make a french drain.

Sorry - not sure I was clear. I've yet to hook up the drain pipes to the whole - the water came from just rain in the garden rather than from rain be channelled there by the extension.

What is a french drain?
