Soakaway - Dead Spot - WTF

Hello all,

Picture paints a thousand words:

Neighbours tell us the soak-away was constructed of bricks, not plastic crates (by previous owners).

Apparently this happens every year when its grass growing season.

A) What could be the cause?

B) What would fellow members suggest, to achieve a proper fix?

Quite simply, the rubble infill is far too close to the top soil. The rubble will soak up all moisture as the water table lowers with the seasons. Solution is to dig down and replace some of the top most rubble with a decent depth of soil.

As above, brick will also absorb the heat and reflect it back onto the roots. Dig it out and use crates.
