Ok so i have a strange bolt i need to remove, and after a bit of looking around on the internet i think it requires either a triple square, double hex or spline socket bit to do so. My question is, these all look the same to me is there a difference between the three or is it just a case of different manufacturers giving them different names? How can i tell which one i need if they are all different?

Thankls in advance

Seriously though, a photo would help people in identifying it.

I have often wondered what the difference is between Phillips and PoziDrive - if indeed there is any....

Posidrive have an extra 4 contact points between the main blades.

Thanks for all the responses i have now sorted the problem after borrowing a friends socket bit set.

They are also a different profile.

Guaranteed way to damage a tight Phillips screw is to use a Posidrive bit. Likewise a tight posidrive screw will be damaged by using a Phillips bit.
