Hi All. My first post after reading this forum for a few years.

It is time for a re-wire and the installation of more 13A sockets.

Are there any rules / regs regarding placing sockets on the inside of an external wall (i.e. sinking a metal box in a wall that will have a window / patio door on it? Was wondering about possible damp problems (there aren't any at moment). Thanks

If you're in England or Wales then rewiring it is notifiable under The Building Regulations.

Ditto it has to comply with P1, and the usual way in this country to show compliance with that is to comply with the IEE Wiring Regulations, so if you are doing this work you ought to familiarise yourself with them and at least get copies of the On-Site Guide and the Electrician's Guide to the Building Regulations.

There are no special requirements for sockets on external walls, provided they aren't going to get wet, but there will be all the requirements for RCD protection, cable routes and the structural implications of cutting chases into walls to consider.

Thank you for that! Was just checking as we have some large and awkwardly-shaped rooms to think about.

Thanks for advice re regulations - it will be a qualified electrician who shall be installing - definitely NOT a diy job!
