Im going to install a metal double socket onto my garage wall. Because its metal do i also need to earth the back mounting plate on the socket.

If so, does the earth cable have to be of a certain type. i've some spare arctic flex cable i used for an outdoor light and have stripped it down to get the earth cable out, is that ok to use for earthing the back plate?

many Thanks
James

As long as the csa of the earth is 1.5 mm or above, then OK. You could also just strip the earth out of the 2.5 twin and earth you're using to put in the new socket..
