Hi All, Need some help here guys and girls, I am in the process of installing a new bathroom suite, in a house that has cast iron soil pipes.
The existing soil pipe vent runs up the corner of the bathroom (internally) and out through the roof, and is quit unsightly, I could box it in and then tile it, but with it being a 5” pipe it protrudes over the window edge, if you get what I mean!
I would like to reduce the size of the vent pipe at floor level, to something like 3”.
Do you think this would be ok, as this is how it is done in my own house from new build.
The length of pipe I want to replace has no other branches connected to it.
Any help or suggestions appreciated.

Since a soil pipe alteration is notifiable, you should take the advice of your BCO. He/she will probably permit what you want to do, but the decision needs to be made with knowledge of venting arrangements in the neighbouring properties (if there are any).

Better asking your local building control as they tend to differ from county to county.

In general a soil stack is 4" .
