Hallo
I have cast iron soil stack within a boxed area in the corner of a room with concrete floor. In the middle of July during a storm some water appeared from under the carpet adjacent to the boxed area, approx 1 metre square. With the general improvement of the weather the carpet has dried out with no repeat at least visibly.
The surrounding walls show no signs of dampness and the only previous occasion this happened was 3 years ago when there was a blockage at the front of the house and presumably the water backed up. There are mains pipes running along-side the property.
Is this something to investigate further or just a one-off?
thanks in anticipation

Sounds like a badly sealed joint under floor.

Also the drain has a tendancy to back up.

Every three years does not sound often enough to bother most people but its up to you.

Tony,
thanks for feedback, I thought it might be something like that but its good to have confirmation from one more informed about plumbing.

If water is appearing when it's raining hard, the weathering of the soil vent stack through your roof may be suspect, allowing rainwater to run down the outside of the vent pipe.
