Soldering next to a gas pipe...

I

imamartian

Hi, i'm about to solder a hot and cold supply for a new sink, but the joins are next to (15cm away) the main gas pipe coming into the house - so i'm a bit nervous.

Should i turn the gas off while i solder the water pipes, or should it be ok?

Thanks

a great big plank of wet wood between the pipes should give protection

a burner flame can easily be 150mm long even if its not visible

thanks guys.

I have a soldering mat, just bothered about any gas in the air... although i know that shouldn't be possible.

and just measured and i'll be 6cm away

I hope this is a steel or copper gas pipe and not a plastic one!
