Solid Oak kitchen worktop fitted less than 12 months ago. I have oiled it numerous times but I have noticed a slight crack and swelling (no longer flush near the sink in the pictures) and wondered what I can do to fix it and or prevent it getting any worse? We try and keep the area dry. I am really surprised solid oak is reacting in this way! Any tips?

Nothing you can do.

You could use one of those nozzles you get with tubes of silicone.

You need one that hasnt been cut down.

Spread some glue on the crack and use the tube to blow the glue into the crack.

You cant close the crack, but the glue might seal the wood and stop water getting in.

Shrinkage has created tension and caused the crack

Looks like the glue in the staves has failed , was it sealed on underside? Where was it purchased ?

Thanks both,

The crack isn’t wide enough to fit a small silicon nozzle down. Do you think wood oil down the crack will help?

I got a company in to fit the worktop, kitchen fitters who were decent.
