Here's another question that's probably been asked many times before in many different ways.

I intend to replace an existing suspended floor in my kichen with a concrete floor: hardcore base (at least 100mm), insulation, DPM then concrete slab (about 100mm).

I then want to put floorboards on top, just T&G softwood. My intention at the moment is to batten the concrete slab and secret nail the boards to these. Is this sensible ? Do I need another polythene sheet between the concrete and the boards ? How long should I leave the concrete slab before screwing battens to it ?

Or would I be better off screeding on top of the concrete and laying the boards as a floating floor ?

Appreciate any comments / suggestions.

Installing a wooden floor floating is easier and much less expensive.
You need to be sure that your new concrete is dried out sufficiently before you can install the wooden flooring. One inch normally takes 30 days under normal circumstances.
Also install a DPM and sound-insulation first on top of the concrete.

Softwood in kitchen? Not very suitable: dents very easily and is more prone to react to moist. Better is Wood-Engineered (comes more and more in full-plank versions, see here
