Solvent Varnish: Reducing Gloss to Satin

Hello

I've found some solvent based varnish which suits my project made by Blackfriar.

It's a coloured light oak varnish, but they only make it in Gloss whereas we would prefer Satin. However in the same range they do a clear satin varnish.

Can I just apply the coloured gloss, but then paint over it later with the clear satin. Will this reduce the gloss to satin and does it usually work?

Yes, it will work.
Give the gloss a light sanding with 180 paper before applying the satin.
