Someone is trying to start a war in the Ukraine, It's NOT Russia (edit: yes it is)

And it's rather condescending to claim that 'the west has brains' and intimate that the others don't
Its not condescending at all.
Perhaps 'the west has brains' is not the right words, maybe talent for innovation word a better description.

Although the rest of the world is catching up with the west and the centre of economic gravity is gradually shifting from west to east.

FYI - the mjority of russians may be fed up with him and did not want to see people killed on both sides.
We are lucky to have you here keeping us up to date with what's going to happen next. Did you ever hear back from your high up friends in Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Moldova etc? Be interesting to know what they are thinking at the moment.

So you'll welcome Ukranian refugees given that they are 'genuine' according to you?

Why would they not be genuine?

They'll be genuine refugees and I have no doubt would assimilate, make a positive contribution and be grateful to their hosts. Not like certain migrants who destroy their documents, detest our way of life and plot our downfall. Don't see any Ukranians being given sanctuary here being in any hurry to commit acts of terrorism.

Perhaps we could exchange genuine Ukranian refugees for the parasites sneaking into The UK on the Kent coast.

But is the west catching up with the east in mass manufacturing?

Nope the west lost that one years ago...

And western countries such as Canada and Australia have exported their huge resources in order to gain a quick buck for a few rather than inwardly invest...

I'd wager that the west has not only been caught up with, but already overtaken!

Not so clever!

I do wonder if, whilst not today or tomorrow, history will mark February 2022 as the starting point of Putin's eventual downfall. As someone said on tv last night, when someone has been in power for 20+ years, especially someone like Putin, they genuinely believe they are untouchable, indestructible and beyond reproach. However, as this person also pointed out, that is often when they start to make mistakes and errors of judgement.

If reports are to be believed, Russians are split something like 45% for / 40% against the Ukraine invasion with the remainder undecided. If accurate, this doesn't necessarily bode well for Putin longer term as he usually enjoys support 70% and above. There is a growing middle class in Russia that has no desire to see the country go down this route. Many of the younger generations don't get their news from Russia state tv, so they see what's actually going on. Also, many Russian families have close links to Ukraine.

And we also now live in a social media era. It's interesting that more than a few Russian people have publicly condemned his actions.

What is he, 70? It's more than sad to think his parting gift to his homeland might be to leave them even more isolated from the West than they already are.

Agree. Saw the same here with Thatcher. Started off well enough, but lost it in the end.

10000 plus refugees have entered Romania

Poland are bracing themselves for a huge influx

Hungary as well

I saw a little girl hunkered down in floods of tears in a news report. Her story? Who knows. Maybe she's already been separated from her parents.

That's the reality of war.

It's hard to believe the Russian people will support this for long. If sanctions are enforced as the various Nations are promising, the people of Russia will eventually suffer badly. I know that's a big if and the older generations in Russia have experienced hard times in the past but the middle and younger generations have had it relatively easy and have come to like the finer things in life. If sanctions bite as deeply as they could do they will not be so happy in the coming months. Russia is basically isolated apart from China, but how many young Russians really identify with China?
