Hi

We moved into a flat which has no sound proofing (as far as we can tell) with the flat above. It's an old victorian house that's been carved into flats. It's driving us all mad and we (both flats) are looking at solutions-we can hear both impact and airbourne noise.

We have 2 ideas-soundproof matting (the really heavy duty stuff) or taking floorboards up and insulating. Which is better?

As I can't do the harry hill and get them to fight it out, I'd welcome any thoughts

Thanks

Thick underlay and carpet upstairs. Rockwool in between the joists, extra layer of plasterboard on downstairs ceiling (if on resilient channel then even better)
