Hi,
We have just purchased a house with a Victorian sprial staircase in cast iron. The metalwork stair treads have an open pattern and last week my small miniature schnauzer dog caught her paw badly in them. Any ideas on what we could do to save her foot going through the metalwork? We were thinking of making wooden treads to fit over the ironwork, but think this may be too pricey.[/url]

you could affix triangular wood to the stairs

make a template make 1 or 2 more treads than you need for breakages
affix from underneath through the pattern with brass screws and cup washers
if its a temporary measure 12mm ply would do
but you must be aware of the trip hazzard as your foot will try and hit the old level

would it not be easier to fit booties to your dog where stair climbing is concerned!!!!!!
