Spotlights in Kingspan insulation

i have never seen a lounge/kitchen that needed 25 downlights to light it

And if I was installing that, I think I'd be putting a busbar in to cut down on the amount of cable I'd need to use!

I want a lounge/kitchen that big!

A single spot isn't designed to light a room, but that's not what we are talking about. Several spots ARE desinged to light a room, and do so very well.
But that is precisely the problem, which you keep on admitting.

S E V E R A L

Anybody who designs a light so poor at lighting up room spaces and says "it's designed to light up room spaces if you use several of them" is a lying, cheating, incompetent ****.

Not one of the several is designed to light up a room. Using several is necessary because they are not fit for purpose.

Look at this office, and virtually every other office in the world.

What do you see?

Lots of lights to light one room.

I guess you're right and every professional commercial lighting designer is a "lying, cheating, incompetent ****."

Why isn't there just one flex drop in the middle of the room with a great big naff off lamp in it?

The holes in the insulation wouldnt need to be larger than the spotlight because they run alot cooler.
The holes probably need to be as big, possibly bigger, than for a non-LED fitting. LEDs make less heat (but they do make heat) - but while making less heat, they are also far, far more sensitive to it. Thus LEDs need just as much cooling space as non-LED fittings.

That "LEDs don't need cooling space" is just as much a myth as "fire rated downlights don't need gaps in the insulation".

As already mentioned, unless the manufacturers instructions say you can wrap them in insulation, then you cannot - at least if you want them to last at least as long as an incandescent light bulb.

How's about considering that some room just don't need all room lighting?

A bathroom needs a light in certain areas, mirror and reading points in ours.

We all know spots are poo for full room lighting, but no one needs full room lighting in any room other that a pron studio. There's also the low profile, some loft conversions simply can't have anything other than a recessed lights system.

The ceiling flush look is still popular, though fortunately less require to machine gun pepper spray small areas.

There's nothing wrong with recessed lighting per se.

2" torches are carp at whole room illumination not because they are recessed, but because they are 2" torches. There would be just as carp.
