I've repaired a few scratches on my rear bumper and been disappointed with the matching of the spray.

It was bought from the dealer, is the colour of the car, moondust silver, metallic. However, it stands out a mile, looking more like grey.

Have I done something wrong, or are my expectations too high. I've not yet sprayed with the laquer provided incase I have to take the silver off again.

The laquer will change the appearance of the repair.

Make yourself a 'colour swatch' using both the paint and laquer to see how close the finished colour is.

Metallic colours are more difficult to match than plain ones - the angle the paint is sprayed from and the drying time / temperature seem to affect some paints. Sometimes a 'repaired' section will always stand out, unless the complete panel is re-painted.

Maybe that's why bumper stickers were invented?

not only that but laquers are notoriously difficult to get right from an aerosol.

i've tried to get it right on many occasions but failed.
