I need a socket next to my consumer unit for a low power security camera. My house ring main goes into an RCD in the consumer unit, so the live and neutral from the ring both go into the RCD. Can I just add a the live and neutral from a spur straight into the RCD?

Circuit wise I can't think how it would differ from a spur anywhere else on the ring but I was hoping someone could confirm it was ok to add a third set of wires into the RCD.

Thanks!

You can take a spur from the consumer unit, as you would from any joint box or socket outlet.

When you say RCD, and both live and neutral are connected to it, I assume you actually mean an RCBO which is an MCB and RCD incorporated in a single unit.

Bet he means MCB

:D

Does the fuse you intend to spur from have a test switch on it, or is it a simple on / off MCB rated at 30A or 32A

Yep, sounds like its an RCBO! I wasn't sure if sticking the spur straight into it was correct as I've not seen one before. All the others are MCBs with the common neutral bar.

Cheers
