Hello all,
I have a wiring dilemma concerning some halogen down lights (3 x 10W via a PIR) I want to fit in the soffit above my garage door to light the driveway.

Power is supplied to the garage in the form of two spurs at present, one from the upstairs lighting ring, supplying the garage single strip light and one from the socket ring supplying the only plug socket in the garage.

Can any one thing of a legal way of me connecting the soffit lights up; the ring is buried in a cavity wall and I’m sure your not allowed to spur of a spur, even if the load is very low.

Thanks

Dave

Lighting circuits are not normally wired as a ring. You should be able to tap the existing lighting feed and use that for the new lights.

Oh Yes!

Thanks Paul

Never Really looked in to the consumer unit to see if there was a return, I just assumed all power circuits were rings these days!

please accept my apologies in advance if i offend you
but....
if you're assuming things that are'nt are you sure you are able to 'competently' do this modification?

no insult intended just asking! :)

3x10W will just about light up the top of your garage door.

As it happens, I have posted this question in retrospect. I have already done what I proposed and all works fine, you would be surprised how well 30 watts can light up a short dark drive when reflected off a white garage door.

The question I had shows I am not a total pleb (I hope) as I refer to the IEEE wiring regs on not spurring from a spur, however this is a radial circuit as pointed out by Paul_C.

Thanks Paul :D

I wanted to sure that what I was doing was up to code, if checked.

Best regards

Dave
