Hi Guys,

I want to add a spur from a radial circuit to feed a double socket. The most convenient place to take this spur happens to be more or less beside the CU.

Can I make the spur point inside the CU at the mcb terminal, or would it be better to add a 30A junction box on to the circuit cable and to take it from there?

Thanks
Bothy

Can I assume Ireland complies with BS7671?
You can do either way, it doesn't really matter. If the circuit is radial, you are not really spurring from it, just extending the radial. A 32A/30A radial wired in 4mm² twin and earth can serve an area up to 75m², a 20A radial wired in 2.5mm² can feed upto 50m². I'd advise you to keep the wire sizes for the addition the same as the existing install.
