am just in the process of putting in a spur from the ring in my house. the run is very short(2 metres). just wanted to know if i could use 4mm twin and earth for this spur as i have some left and dont have any 2.5. is there anything in the regs that says i cant go up a cable size?

other than you probably wont get, 2 x2.5 + a 4mm into the socket, its fine

i would get a bit of 2.5, easier lesss hassle, and you may need the 4mm

As long as your socket outlet will take 2x2.5mm² + 1x4mm² you won't have a problem, you might have to use MK to do this though  , being arkward about it though, I don't think even MK approve their outlets for mixed sizes of cable, so possibly technically a non-complicance, but as long as the cables are securely connected, I wouldn't be overly worried
