Staining handrail of new stairs

Morning all,
I have a job soon to paint a new installed stairs, the customer would like all wood white satin but the handrail stained to match the floor which is a dark oak colour
Q would it be best to complete the white then do the handrail?
Your views would be appreciated thanks

I normally do like you've said, you can sand off any paint you may get on the handrail.
