I have just had my roof re-tiled and the builder has allowed unsightly stains run run down about 5 tiles from the chimney breast. He tells me this is patination oil and is normal but to me it looks a mess and on a new roof is not what I expected. I am telling him to replace the tiles but he tells me that he will have to leave at least one unpinned. Is there a better way to get rid of these stains? Will they disappear of their own accord in the near future? Am I expecting too much? Any advice would be apprecieated.

Are the streaks white if so they are carbonate streaks and that is exactly what patination oil is supposed to prevent.
If the streaks are clear patination oil streaks they wil weather off fairly quickly.
If they are carbonate streaks eventually the lead will form its patina and the carbonates will stop running, the resultant streaks however will take a bit longer to weather off but will go eventually

Sounds to me as though he knows about patination oil... has not used it, but is now using the oil as an exscuse for the stain runs from the lead that has not been treated and hoping you will buy it!!!!
