Hi,

I was wondering if anyone had any idea of how I can reattach the knob on the end of my stair bannister/handrail (does it have a proper name?). I have attached a picture of the offending knob. The screw is very rusty and very wobbly. I suppose the easy solution is to get some hardcore glue, but I'd prefer a solution which will last. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Simon

Remove current screw [molegrips] and replace, if you don't have a double ended screw, insert standard screw and cut head off ,[needs a fully threaded screw]. Drop of wood glue to keep it in place.

Thanks for the replies. The thread in the knob is completely shot and just pulls off with minimal force. Can I fill this (polyfilla?) and then drill a pilot hole so the new screw will hold it in place?

Use a larger screw, polyfilla wont hold a screw.Or tap in some matchsticks, timber sticks with a little wood glue to pack the hole.
