IMO they are a pain to fit as you have to find a way to run the cables down to the understairs area where they will all cometogether
Then you'll need a lighting feed (which will probably not be under the stairs!)
Then you'll need to locate a switch.
Fine if you are putting in new stairs & refurbing the whole stairs area. Electrically simple but practically not simple. (IMO)

I think my Dad installed some on a new build house about 18 months ago or so, but they were on every other step IIRC. Sounds a bit nasty to me (the look) but that's what the purchaser had agreed with the builder
