Standalone Garage - Bump out Rear within 2m of house?

Hi folks,

I'm looking at making an offer on a property that ticks a lot of boxes. Except one. The garage is too short.

The area I'm looking at, they're almost always not wide enough, but unfortunatly this one would be perfect if it wasn't around 0.5-1m too short (approx measurements at this stage...)


As I see it, there are two solutions, neither of which may be legal/suitable:

1. Bump out the garage at the rear
The diagram attached shows the potential property in blue (ignore red part)
The garage is one of a pair - the neighbours is directly attached to the existing garage, and the garage of interest in in green

The gap between the front of the east side of the house and the corner of the garage is between 1.5m - 2m (marked in orange)

In effect I'd be proposing to extend the garage by as little as 0.5-1m, thus leaving some clearance between the house/garage but losing side access isn't the end of the world as I could look to put a door via the garage.


2. Remove most of the front sloped front garden and put in a garage
This would be a good couple of meters in front of the principal elevation of the house - so I can't see any way this could get through planning, unless anyone has any ideas?

a very long time ago one of my brothers mates had a big American fibreglass car. Maybe a Corvette?

it was too long for his Dad's garage and they bought a precast concrete coal store thing that they assembled on the end of the garage, in the garden.
They then knocked out the bottom of the back wall of the garage (presumably using a lintel of sorts?)
they car fitted by poking it's nose into the 1/2 storey "extension". I doubt any planning was considered

I'd be surprised if extending a garage would be much of an issue with planners?

Thanks @Tigercubrider - that sounds like it could work though I'd be looking to build out brickwork.

Sounds like it may be do-able, after all I suppose it's at the rear of the garage.

Other option is this I suppose (no, I don't drive a truck!!)

My mate's garage seems to have been extended by about 10 feet before he bought.
That's a detached brick and render one with a pitched tile roof.
it starts behind the house line and was possibly extended to allow car to be parked, yet still have a workable space towards the back.

I'd enquire about planning as you could do something reasonably useful and even have a set of garage doors at each end, allowing good access to the rear?
a friend's parents did that so maintained reasonably decent access for scaffold and ladders when they later had work done.
Obviously the garage needs bracing to replace the support that the back wall gives but garage doors are quite cheap.
