Hi

Over the past couple of weeks we've noticed this strange smell in one of our bedrooms (next to the bathroom). This sounds odd and whilst its not a nice smell its not repulsive... almost smells like the smell when you leave washing in the machine for too long and it goes a bit musty. Worth poining out that the plugholes in the bathroom are very slow with water taking a few mins to go down, The toilet seems ok but can often block. Also worth mentioning that we tend to dry clothes in the room on an airer. I tell you all of this as one or two may be culprit!

Its driving me mad so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Take away the clothes and see if the smell's still there

Try inspecting all the traps from the sink, bath and shower if you have one. Bottle traps can be unscrewed fairly easily if they're accessible - just make sure you have a bowl and old towel handy. If the traps are manky, then give them a good clean.

If the traps are clear and the water is still taking time to disappear, then you might have a blockage further down the line I guess. If any of the waste pipes run under the bedroom and water is backed up in them, then certain types of joints may leak over time.

Are there any signs of leaks from the ceilings in the rooms below ?

If the clothes you dry in there are clean, then I wouldn't have thought they'd make the room smell musty, unless any water is dripping off them and soaking the carpet ?
