It is possible for the Congress to amend the 1845 law and the President would have to sign it. In order for that to happen the Republicans would have to control The House of Representatives, and the Senate, and the Executive. But that might still be overturned by the Supreme Court..

The postponement of other elections, e.g. Senators, etc is rather complex. New York did cancel elections during Covid.


Israel has repeatedly and frequently postponed elections in 1948, 1973, 2023, 2024 and may well be postponed again in October 2026.

The newly-released documents, external show advice sent to the prime minister said Lord Mandelson and Epstein's relationship continued after the financier's conviction for procuring an underage girl in 2008.

A due diligence document sent to the PM on 11 December 2024 - nine days before he was confirmed as ambassador - raised a number of issues which could pose a "reputational risk".

It highlighted a 2019 report commissioned by US bank JP Morgan which found Epstein appeared to "maintain a particularly close relationship" with Lord Mandelson.

The document notes that the peer reportedly stayed in Epstein's house while the financier was in jail in June 2009.
