Hi all

Need help thanks in advance.

Recent visit by building inspector gave me an idea. He suggested I build two columns to accomodate a steel beam(s) giving me a bit more room which I would have lost in building a partition wall.

Concrete in foundations poured tomorrow. What is the best method of building columns to support steel and a load bearing wall. Span 3800. Wall with cavity of 100 above beams. Wall height 2500.

a structural engineer should advise as this is a very specific and important element.

are the columns freestanding or tie into existing masonry?

regardless, i would say lightweight blockwork is a no-no.

do you mean you have a twin skin wall with 100mm cavity above?

I would suggest building the piers from engineering brick, size of piers will depend on location and load
