Would it run for five minutes if there was a air lock?

If everything is OK except the 5 minute limit, Then I would suspect the solinoid. The reason being: it comprises a coil of wire which makes a electro magnet. Coils go faulty when the wire breaks and the break opens up due to heat. So it may well operate while cool but only until it gets heated up.

What happens if you try to re light it? (a) straight after lock out and (b) after it's had time to cool off.

if i tried to refire straight away it dos not thanks

could be the drive dog thats wearing / worn out too. But the solenoid sounds more likely :)

Get a Oftec service technician out to look at it. Dont get some one that only services gas boilers!

If the burner is going straight to lock out {red light comes on} it may be there is no spark, a photo cell or fuel pump fault.

Have you visually checked that there is oil in the fuel tank.
