Sticking Valves When Flush Plate Fitted

I have installed a Roca wall hung WC. Unfortunately I cannot work out how to attach the flush plate so it pulls out the arm that controls the valve. At the moment it sticks so the water keeps running into the bowl and not filling up the cistern.

It is possible to release the valve manually without the facia plate.

Has anyone got any ideas how to get the spring on the back of the facia plate to pull the arm to release the valve?

Any inputs would be much appreciated.
