Hi, I have a 1989 XR3i Cabriolet and it is is really nice condition. Yesterday I was stuck in motorway jams for 4 hours and was forced to constantly change gear from 1st to 2nd then back..occasionally 3rd...Today the gear stick feels really stiff, the clutch still feels the same but there feels like some sort resistance when changing...is there any fluid that might need topping up as I am rubbish at car maintenance and could do with some advice as I am heading back on the motorway this afternoon and am a bit anxious ! Gearbox oil would be a good place to start, failing that then maybe the linkage could do with some oil on it.
Get a haynes manual and it'll tell you how what to do......... probably find one on ebay for a couple of quid!
