stone filling - car filler?

Hello there,

I'm intending to repair my window sills on my victorian terrace. I passed a man that was doing just this on the same road and asked him how he was repairing the stone. He was using car filler repair putty / liquid and by batoning off the sills he was able to get a fantastic hard edge and smooth finish on the surface. Is this something that will last and is it common practice?

Well why not, the stone isnt going to move about.
