I have just moved into a new ground floor, 70s, purpose built flat and was told that the stopcock was to be located under the kitchen sink. It wasn't there. Now I am baffled as to where it might be as my kitchen taps do not work. What is even more baffling is that the cold taps in my bathroom do work even though the hot taps do not. :?

Any light that can be thrown on this little issue would be greatly appreciated.

Try looking in your bathroom or downstairs loo. May be boxed in though.

Cold taps upstairs have their own supply from the cold storage tank in the loft, with their own gate valve.

Hot water taps gate valve might be turned off as well, could be supplied from the same cold storage tank.

Check under the sink for any 1/4 turn service valves that may be turned off.

Not necessarily ,what if it,s acombi and all domestic is at mains pressure?

If that was the case there wouldn't be any water at the bathroom cold taps, it sounds as though a combi may have been fitted and the bathroom colds left as indirect from a loft tank. If there is a combi then check the cold isolator valve going into the boiler hasn't been turned off.

Hi

Why not ask other people living in the block where there's is. Particularly another groud floor flat.
This might shed light on your dilema.

HTH.

Thank you my dilemma has been solved.

The stopcocks were all in the airing cupboard with the cold water storage tank, which was empty, they were just nigh on impossible to see and get to.

My kitchen cold water tap is now quite explosive.
