The mains pipe coming up through the solid kitchen floor is lead.
The stoptap has a minor leak and I want to replace it.
How can I turn the water off?

My guess is that there is an outside stopcock, but I've been living here 10 years and I've never seen one at all.
Failing that, would freezing the pipe work or is the pressure too high?

Cheers

there should be a boundry stop tap somewhere

freezing will be ok

make sure you have everything you need to hand before you start

ie fittings tools carrot

Could the tap be outside on the pavement and if so, am I allowed to turn it off?

Depends where you live ...Round this way the water board dont charge for turning it on and off. Give em a ring see what they say.
If the valve unscrews or breaks while you are working on it you could end up with a gusher and a bill from the water board for damaging their property.
