Hello,

Is the 24 hour side of the Storage heating board on a cheaper tariff than the domestic Consumer unit?

Yes, if you have a separate consumer unit for the storage radiator circuit(s) and you pay for an off peak plan (eg Economy 7).

Why do you ask?

Yea we have two consumer units one for storage/convectors and one for domestic power.

So what exactly is giving cheaper electricity 24 hours a day just the 24 hour side of the Heating board yea? or how does it work?

The storage heater board will be on a cheaper rate (but only come on for a few hours at night and possibly a couple in the afternoon) than the 24 hour board.

However, when you have this arrangement your 24 hour rate is quite a lot more than someone who has just a standard supply (without storage heaters and E7 or E10).

you will have a seperate meter for the storage heaters which allows energy through between 11pm and 6 am which is on a cheaper tariff. Check this tariff.

Post a picture of your meter(s) and we should be able to tell you when your cheap rate is.
Some set-ups have 2 meters where one records all your cheap rate and one the dearer rate.
Other tariffs have one meter which may allow all your appliances in the house to benefit from the cheaper rate at certain times.
ie you maybe able to do your washing during the cheap period.
Different areas of the UK also have different times for tariffs of the same name.
