Hey,

Just joined the forum for some advice troops.

Just had an electrician round to look at putting in 4 storage heaters in my flat. I must admit I want this done in cheapest way possible. I dont have a meter with e7 and realise I would need the leccy board to fit this. Is it possible for the spark to just run a radial or ring round 4 switched spurs, through a time-clock and with a suitable dircuit breaker in my main board? I realise I would not benefit from the cheaper rate of e7 for this, but thats not my main concern at the moment. The spark in question said no contractor could sign that off and could only be done through a 'homer'. Though he never quite offered his services!

Any advice would be great, cheers.

Storage heaters should each be on their own radial, not all on the same ring. From an engineering POV you could make a ring final work, but it wouldn't be a standard 2.5mm² 32A one, and I wonder what would be the point.

Also, before you embark down this road, find out exactly what twin-tariff deals your supplier has, whether you pay a higher standard rate and/or standing charge to get cheap rate at some times etc. And with some tariffs you'll need a 2nd CU.

Just as well, or you might have taken them. He's talking b*ll*cks - either the work complies with the regulations or it doesn't, there aren't different rules for "homers".
