How is it possible to cut, using a band-saw, a straight line through an irregular shaped object? I can lay down a parallel fence to help matters, but my object is very irregular. thanks in advance.
It can really be down to experience, but you could try using a nice broad blade, and finishing the cut on a belt linisher after....would this be possible?
You'll get a better cut by using a table circular saw though.

Can you make some frame that would hold the object so it doesn't move and is properly oriented. The frame could be also used as a guide. Then you just cut through the frame and object together.
