What is strain relief when wiring junction boxes?

I guess its something to do with not making the cable going in or out of the box not clipped too tightly?? I don't have a specific situation in mind but there are lots of posts on here from DIYers asking about junction boxes, and many of the replies mention adequate strain relief. I am just not sure how to incorporate it into the cable/junction box set up. Thanks

Round junction boxes have no strain relief - they rely on not being disturbed too much, and the outgoing cables being clipped.

Strain relief is fastening the cable so that it cannot be pulled out of its connections. A cord grip in a plug is one such strain relief.

IP junction boxes can have strain relief fitted in the form of glands.
