Good afternoon,

Is strain relief required on a fused connection unit switch? I would like to think it is, but if it's wired as a back entry for example, it's not used? Could t seem to find anything in the regs, but not 100% where to look

If it is required, do you know where I can obtain spares? I've been looking online but they seem too small or a different type. I phoned Crabtree but they don't sell them and they're pulling out of the Domestic market soon anyway.

Thanks in advance

Well, it's not required for the FCU but the cable might need it depending on where it goes.
Are you talking about just the actual spur cable or the possible two ring circuit cables which might supply it.

No.
You say 'it' so I presume you are only thinking of the spur cable.

522.8.5? and common sense.

No, never bought any.
Can you not access any old accessories which might have similar?

Any method would do - couple of cable ties to prevent the cable moving and pulling on the terminations.

The flex that rubs from the spur/fcu to the boiler so 3/5 core flex

Thanks I'll take a look at that. I have common sense to a fashion, but not that au fait with electrics

Only if I'm changing one or if I manage to get a void property where it's having an upgrade

That's useful to know, thanks

Ok. so it comes out the front - so will need some sort of restraint.

The flex is the spur; not the FCU despite people calling them that.

They are (usually) only a piece of plastic with two holes.

I thought it might. Sometimes they're wired (surface mounted) through the cut out - would this be ok to just be clipped, same as a JB?

I knew that, something I learnt from being on a forum, possibly this one

Afaik all of ours are. Are you saying I could manufacture something myself?

Found these, however I measure the fcu switch strain relief holes to be 20mm center and they're about 17.5mm

I'm doing my best. Pretend you are Isambard Brunel. :)
