A friend of mine is in the process of buying a property. Whilst looking round they noticed that the drain outside the kitchen was backed up. Suspecting a collapsed drain, they hired a contractor who started to dig the old channel up and found a hand towel blocking it. How would a hand towel find its way through a domestic waste pipe?

Anyone found any stranger items?

Could someone have dropped it down the bog and thought "sod it, i'll flush it" rather than fishing it out from the crap?

Did that a few times as a kid.

Could there have been squatters there beforehand? I can't imagine they'd care about the upkeep of the waste pipe system.

In answer to your first question - it couldn't get into the drain from the domestic system more likely used to clear something in the past and was left down there

Ref your question about unusual items down drains - ask the drainage engineer who found the body parts from Dennis Nielsons victims!
