I'm restoring/refinishing an old oak refectory table, I've strip all the dark lacquer off and the sanded down to the bare wood but I'm left with a few strange light spots, is this the natural colour f be oak, what I should be hoping to achieve across the whole piece or is it something else?

Thanks

are you referring to the different coloured planks or the scratch lines crossing the planks
or something else :?: :?:

Looks like remains of water damage , try ironing with a cloth or tissue over the top.Keep iron moving to avoid scorching.

It could be time to get brutal with a 4" belt sander Fox is right the wood has swelled making high spots ,which are cleaned of first ,hence the cleaner finish on the water marks, this is the true colour
