Good Morning,

we has a water leak about 6 weeks ago, (2 pipes had been joined under the kitchen floor and after 40 years the joint failed.) at the same time i replaced another joint on another pipe that looked worse for wear.

the two pipes i repaired are the hot and cold pipes into the bathroom, the cold feed goes to the toilet then onto the basin then onto the shower. the hot feed goes to the basin then onto the shower. since replacing the pipes sometimes when you flush the toilet shortly after you get a noise like a ships foghorn for a few seconds. Any ideas why?

I did wonder if maybe i had mixed up the hot and cold feed pipes when i had them disconnected but im assuming not as if i had then surely the hot and cold settings on the shower and basin would be reversed? I did have to remove the toilet to effect the repair and the isolating valve on it feels like it is seizing up and was difficult to open again could this have anything to do with it?

thanks

chris

This is a common occurrence. The WC ball valve is making the noise as it approaches its shut off position. It's easy to check, when the noise occurs push the float down and the noise should disappear. Changing the washer on the ball valve usually fixes it. The pressure may have changed as you have altered the isolation valves during the work causing it to appear afterwards.

thanks very much for the quick response, i will perform your test later today
