Strange stain on wall

Hello, we are buying a house and went to do our final viewing today and found this strange mark on the wall. We have had a full homebuyers survey done which says there is no damp or moisture problems. But this stain just seemed so strange!

Any ideas what it is?

It is not on an outside wall or the wall where the chimney is. It did not feel damp to the touch or smell.

is it in the kitchen?

What height is it? And what are the dimensions of the segment of wall in your picture?

It is in the bedroom which is above the dining room. It is mid way up the wall. Does this photo help? It shows the location of it on the wall.

is it where a person's head might have been against the wall? Or a bedside table?

What is on the other side of that wall? A bathroom? Or is it near where something hanging on the back of the door, or the doorknob, would have touched the wall?

If it is greasy dirt, it might be spider poo, but spiders like to live behind things.

If it is mildew, it results from damp.

Would recon that a greasy teenager has had their head against the wall whilst watching tv. Get a magic eraser on it
