Hi all, I'd like to set up a TRX system in my loft (TRX is basically straps that you use your own bodyweight against for a work out), and maybe to stick a punch bag up as well.

I'd like to strengthen the collar ties, as that's what will be taking the load. I don't know how load bearing they are right now, as they're not designed for that. My plan is to spread the load with a metal tube across 3 or 4 collar ties

So, to reinforce the collar ties, is it as simple as bolting extra timber to the rafters and collar ties? I'm thinking a thick-ish length of timber either side of the existing collar tie, but being careful not to add too much extra weight.

If anyone's done something similar, I'd be grateful to hear! Also wondering if the movement of the TRX or punch bag will be problematic

thanks all!
