My Black and Decker mains strimmer is suddenly not working.

When trying to start it the motor is rather jack rabbit but just cant get going.

There's a 0.1uF capacitor across the switch in the handle so could this possibly have gone faulty?

The capacitor you have found is there to prevent TV interference....there's nothing to stop you removing it, and trying again.
Is there any burning smell from the motor? I suspect it may have gone to that great lawn in the sky..... :p
John :)

After looking at the motor, it turns out it was one of the brushes stuck in its sleeve so it couldn't push up against the commutator and make good contact.

Sweet as a nut now!

Thanks for the info on the capacitor.
