I had one, used it a bit then lost it so bought another very cheaply. I found it easiest to either use contact method on the end of the spindle, or use a blob of tipp-ex & optics, by the way.
More useful on pumps, (screwdriver through hole) which the mfrs DO give rpm for. They slow down as the capacitor dries up and the slip angle increases.
Then I lost the second one.
The nominal speed of a simple spm is of course 50 x 60 = 3000rpm , though they "slip" so you typically get 2800 - 2900.
What I found for fans is, that you can usually slow them down a heck of a lot before the APS stops working, except for Ferrolis and I 've forgotten some ...
many years ago, with BG, had a prog on laptop that measured pump speed/performance with thingy/widget/wotsit placed on pump head. Proved quite useful at times (when it worked).
Do they still have it, in updated version.
Limpet, thats it, the only other thing on laptop was druid. The laptop was virtually indestructible, flew off van roof many times. Still got some old druid discs somewhere.
Yeah i kept a load of the discs too but no use without the build disc unless your a computer geek.
There was a guy in local part suppliers who used to buy set of discs every year for 100 quid, dont know how much he paid for the laptop but they where worth a few quid in those days.
