Is there a difference in the strengths of structural timber types of the same size?

If a structural engineer specified a 63x200 C24 timber section I could use either a C24 timber, a wooden I-Joists or a metal web open joists of that size or greater?

I would ask my SE but we're currently not on speaking terms! :-) But that's another story.....

Thanks.

Is it that large steel beam that you're concerned about, or timber floor beams?

The timber roof beams. The question was really if a C24 63mm x 200mm timber is specified, can I use a that size but with a wooden I-Beam or a metal web open joist? Do the engineered options have the same loading characteristics as the solid piece of timber.

Cheers.

Thanks Tony. I called him something other than a "baby" Woody which is why I think we're not currently talking.
