I'm about halfway through laying (floating) my solid oak floor and am having real problems with gaps.

Some of the boards are slightly different widths (probably only a mm or so) but this means that the board next to it has to go at a slight angle.

I'm concerned that as I go along this is going to keep getting worse - I'm now at the stage where I'm looking at getting a 5mm (or more) gap on my next line.

Help!!

Should I sand it down to avoid this?

I have a string line but its hard to see how straight it is/isn't!

wood sounds faulty. Badly machined or there is a moister difference between the boards. Where was they stored before they was fitted and how long was they acclimatised for?
