Hi all,

My double garage has single brick walls, with pillars at the corners and in the middle of each wall

At the pillar between the two single garage doors, there is a short section of wall sticking into the garage, about 1 metre in, and a 1.5 or so high. there are two courses of brick on the bottom, then thermal block for the rest.

Is this actually doing anything ? it is in the way and also fragile - the top course of blocks fell off a few years ago when I knocked them accidentally.

Thanks for any help.

Regards,
Dan

Hi all,

Yes. It is providing a certain amount of longitudinal support and stability to the center pier.
Appears it requires re building. Take it full height to 2100.

Thanks guys.

Oldun - should I tie it at the projecting end to the rafters ? Otherwise seems like that corner is always going to be easily knocked off.

Dan

Clean up and rebed the blocks knocked of and take restraint nib up to full height of door. with 3.5N concrete blocks
150mm frame cramp screwed to existing brick pier every course of block.
